Dixons Trinity Chapeltown achieves exceptional progress and attainment

Posted 21st March 2025

Students at Dixons Trinity Chapeltown achieved exceptional progress and attainment in their GCSEs, making it one of the top performers amongst schools with high levels of disadvantage in West Yorkshire, according to the latest Department for Education (DfE) data.

The DfE released the Progress 8 and Attainment 8 scores for secondary schools across England. These measures highlight the progress students made between when they finished primary school and their GCSE results, as well as their attainment levels for GCSEs.

For students who sat GCSEs last academic year, Dixons Trinity Chapeltown achieved a Progress 8 score of 0.52, which is categorised as ‘well above average’ by the DfE. The national average was -0.03 and the average for schools in Leeds was 0.1. The academy’s Attainment 8 score was 47.8, whilst the average was 45.9 nationally and 45.5 for Leeds.

Even more impressively, the academy has achieved these results whilst having a higher-than-average proportion of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

When looking at the DfE data for schools where more than 50 per cent of students in the Year 11 cohort came from disadvantaged backgrounds, our academy is:

  • 1st in West Yorkshire for both the progress and attainment of its students
  • 18th in England for overall progress
  • 11th in England for the progress of students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • 33rd in England for overall attainment
  • 28th in England for the attainment of students from disadvantaged backgrounds
